Unit 8: Family Salvation
Chapter 36: The Family Can Be Eternal
Concept 1: Introduction

"The first family on earth was established by our Heavenly Father when he gave Eve to Adam in marriage.

Moses 3:21-24
" 21 And I, the Lord God , caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and he slept, and I took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in the stead thereof;
  22 And the rib which I, the Lord God, had taken from man, made I a woman, and brought her unto the man.
  23 And Adam said: This I know now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man.
  24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh."

Since then, each of us has been commanded to marry and have children so that through our own experience we can learn to be heavenly parents.  President Brigham Young explained that our families are not yet ours.  The Lord has committed them to us to see how we will treat them.  Only if we are faithful will they be given to us forever.  What we do on earth determines whether or not we will be worthy to become heavenly parents (see chapter 2, "Our Heavenly Family").  Chapter 2: Our Heavenly Family, Gospel Principles Comments and Resources

Moroni 10:4-5
  "4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
  5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
