Unit 7: Perfecting Our Lives
Chapter 35: Obedience
Concept 5: Jesus Christ Obeyed His Father

"Jesus Christ was the sublime example of obedience to our Heavenly Father.  He said, "I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." (John 6:38).  His whole life was devoted to obeying his Father; yet it was not always easy for him.  He was tempted in all ways as other mortals (Hebrews 4:15  "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.").

In the Garden of Gethsemane he prayed to his Father, asking if he might avoid the agony he was enduring and the suffering to come on the cross.  Then he ended his prayer by saying, "Not as I will, but as thou wilt." (Matthew 26:39).

Because Jesus obeyed the Father's will in all things, he made salvation possible for all of us.

Discussion

How can remembering the example of the Savior help us be obedient?"

Moroni 10:4-5
"4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
