Unit 7: Perfecting Our Lives
Chapter 26: Sacrifice
Concept 1: Introduction

"Sacrifice means giving to the Lord whatever he requires of our time, our earthly possessions, and our energies to further his work.  The Lord commanded, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness"   (Matthew 6:33).  Our willingness to sacrifice is an indication of our devotion to God.  People have always been tried and tested to see if they will put the things of God first in their lives.

Discussion

Think of a favorite thing you possess.  How would you feel if you were asked to give it up?  Consider the sacrifices of many people as you read: Matthew 19:29 "And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life."

Romans 12:1-2
"1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Moroni 10:4-5
"4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
