Unit 7: Perfecting Our Lives
Chapter 24: The Sabbath Day
Concept 1: What is the Sabbath Day?

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy." (Exodus 20:8; also D&C 68:29  "And the inhabitants of Zion shall also observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy.")

What Is The Sabbath Day?
The word Sabbath comes from the Hebrew word meaning "day of rest".  The Sabbath day commemorates God's day of rest after he finished the Creation.  We read in the book of Genesis that God created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, which he called days: "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made." (Genesis 2:2-3).

The Sabbath day is every seventh day.  It is a holy day ordained by God for us to rest from our daily labors and worship him.

Moroni 10:4-5
"4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
