Unit 5: The Church of Jesus Christ
Chapter 15: The Lord's Covenant People
Concept 1: Introduction

"From the beginning the Lord has made covenants with his children on earth.  When his people make covenants (or promises) with him, they know what he expects of them and what blessings they may expect from him.  They can better carry out his work on earth.  The people who covenant with the Lord and with whom the Lord makes covenants are know as the Lord's "covenant people".  Members of the Church are part of the Lord's covenant people.

Discussion

Deuteronomy 26:18 And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;

What does the Lord mean when he calls his people a "peculiar people"?
Why are Latter-day Saints called a covenant People?

Moroni 10:4-5
  "4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
  5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
