Unit 10: Life after Death
Chapter 46: The Last Judgment Comments and Resources
"Every man that dies shall live again, and shall stand before the bar of God, to be judged according to his works, whether they be good or evil. It is then that all will have to give an account for their stewardship in this mortal life." (Joseph F. Smith, Gospel Doctrine, p. 69)
"Judgment consists in the power to arrive at a wise and righteous decision, to the blessing of the righteous and the condemnation of the wicked. It is an attribute of Deity. "The Lord is a God of judgment" Isaiah 30:18" (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 400).
During the study of this topic, we will learn more about how the Lord will judge us and what the rewards will be.

Alma 5:57-58; Alma 12:12-15 Alma 42
Alma 5:57-58
"57 And now I say unto you, all you that are desirous to follow the voice of the good shepherd, come ye out from the wicked, and be ye separate, and touch not their unclean things; and behold, their names shall be blotted out, that the names of the wicked shall not be numbered among the names of the righteous, that the word of God may be fulfilled, which saith: The names of the wicked shall not be mingled with the names of my people;
58 For the names of the righteous shall be written in the bookof life, and unto them will I grant an inheritance at my right hand. And now, my brethren, what have ye to say against this? I say unto you, if ye speak against it, it matters not, for the word of God must be fulfilled."
Alma 12:12-15
"12 And Amulek hath spoken plainly concerning death, and being raised from this mortality to a state of immortality, and being brought before the bar of God, to be judged according to our works.
13 Then if our hearts have been hardened, yea, if we have hardened our hearts against the word, insomuch that it has not been found in us, then will our state be awful, for then we shall be condemned.
14 For our wordswill condemn us, yea, all our works will condemn us; we shall not be found spotless; and our thoughts will also condemn us; and in this awful state we shall not dare to look up to our God; and we would fain be glad if we could command the rocks and the mountains to fall upon us to hide us from his presence.
15 But this cannot be; we must come forth and stand before him in his glory, and in his power, and in his might, majesty, and dominion, and acknowledge to our everlasting shame that all his judgmentsare just; that he is just in all his works, and that he is merciful unto the children of men, and that he has all power to save every man that believeth on his name and bringeth forth fruit meet for repentance."
Alma 42
"Mortality is a probationary time to enable man to repent and serve God The fall brought temporal and spiritual death upon all mankind Redemption comes through repentance God himself atoneth for the sins of the world Mercy is for those who repent All others are subject to God s justice Mercy cometh because of the atonement Only the truly penitent are saved. About 73 B.C."
3 Nephi 27
"Jesus commands them to call the Church in his name His mission and atoning sacrifice constitute his gospel Men are commanded to repent and be baptized that they may be sanctified by the Holy Ghost They are to be even as Jesus is. Between A.D. 34 and 35."
Ecclesiastes 3:16-22
"16 ¶ And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickednesswas there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
17 I said in mine heart, God shall judgethe righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 For that which befalleththe sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
22 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?"
Matthew 7:21-23
"21 ¶ Not every one that saithunto me, Lord<, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesiedin thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
Romans 2
"God shall render to every man according to his deeds Both Jews and Gentiles judged by gospel laws."
2 Timothy 4:7-8
"7 I have fought a good fight, I have finishedmy course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
Articles of Faith 1:2
"We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression."

Moroni 10:4-5
" 4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
