John Southern Died 4 Feb 1728..sons John Southern, Edward Southern and William Southern, 200 Acres of land granted to Matthew Kemp and land granted to my seof to Dauthter Lettice Chedle.  wit: Thomson Betts, Robert Brown and Thomas Lee, Court appoints Edward Southern as administrator.  Will dated 3 Oct 1726- proved 4 Feb 1728.

Military service: Revolutionary War Captain, 8th Virginia Regiment, servered throughout the Revolutionary war.

Occupation: Carpenter and house joiner.

Moved to frderick County, Virginia, named new home "Berry Plain ", after his birthplace.
In 1919 G>G> Perry had signed receipts from Captain Berry/s soldiers, who paid out of his own purse when the government was unable to furnish funds

     "This Samuel, recorded as lieutenant, of Newport, R.I., on October 1, 1687, for two hundred and fifty pounds (250) in silver bought of George Lawton of Freetown (A farm of 400 acres), which in 1808 became a township of Fall River.  Samuel moved there the next year.  In 1688, he was made Selectman, was assessor, Representative to the Colonial Legislature of Plymouth, once a province of Massachusetts, and was one to the town's council of war.  On November 14, 1693 he sold his farm and on December 30, 1693, bought of Ralph Chapman, the neck of land now known as Gardner's Neck, South Swansea, New York.  For two years he was selectman of Swansea.  He died December 8, 1699.  On February 15, 1697, his estate was appraised at one thousand forty six pounds - 10's.  (1046).  His will is given in the Boston Transcript of April 15, 1907. Samuel and Elizabeth had five children: "

2. Martha    married Hezekiah LUTHER
3. Patience  married Samuel CRANSTON
4. Sarah     married Samuel LEE
5. Samuel    married Hannah SMITH"
